Safety
Jet blast in the ramp (gate) area is a major cause of damage to aircraft and danger
to ground personnel. These safety concerns result in numerous ground operations
restrictions - impacting operational costs, insurance costs, scheduling and the
bottom line.
Ground personnel and vehicles have been literally blown off the ground by ramp
area engine operation.
Aircraft engines can also inhale items such as birds, baggage or tools which can
be shredded and propelled out the back of the engines, becoming dangerous projectiles.
Finally, tug operations involve dangers all their own. Though airplanes are designed
and certificated for towing loads, and airlines' operating specifications provide
for training of ground handling personnel, errors in operation do occur. Towing
operations outside design limits may result in dangers such as collapsed landing
gears or broken tow bars, and can be a serious threat to aircraft, ground vehicles
and ground personnel alike.
WheelTug eliminates these concerns by eliminating the use of engines and tugs in
the gate area. This allows for safer operations, more efficient turnarounds and
potentially simpler ground operation regulations.
