Time Savings
WheelTug dramatically improves between-flight turn-around time through a reduction in
the complexity of the taxi-in/taxi-out process by eliminating the use of aircraft engines.
Much time is burned-up as airplanes wait for tugs and/or go through a tug
attachment/detachment process. Because WheelTug will be "driving" the aircraft
with the engines off, the need for pushback tugs can be eliminated. This means
that aircraft can immediately depart when tower approval is granted, delivering
a significant take-off time advantage.
Further, the use of jet engines to propel aircraft in the ramp area creates serious
safety issues, which require stringent procedural safety measures, which also burn-up
considerable time to execute properly. For instance, vehicles and personnel are
generally prohibited from the area around aircraft and must wait, while the engines
are in use. With WheelTug, many of the ground-operation safety procedures could be
relaxed, enabling faster, smoother and safer turnaround operations. Finally, aircraft
can also safely taxi closer to one another, improving general airport efficiency.
Time-savings is important to everyone - airline, flight crew, passengers, airports,
the FAA. WheelTug solves many complex, interrelated, time consuming issues associated
with aircraft ground-operations.
